September is here, which means that school is in-swing, the weather is coming to its senses, and most importantly, football is back, and tailgates are officially open!
Keep Game Day Grub Healthy This Tailgate Season
Tailgating is one of America’s favorite hobbies–and here in KC, we have a lot to cheer for as we help the hometown team get to the big game. It can be easy to reach for the potato chips or fried foods in the excitement of the game, but there are also plenty of delicious ways to make healthy decisions when you put on your red and gold for football season.
Five Tips for a Healthy Tailgate:
- Eat a protein-rich breakfast the morning of. This will help stabilize your blood sugar and keep you fueled for all of game day.
- At the tailgate, seek out the protein and load up on veggies. Dress up burgers with vegetables like tomato and lettuce, and supplement your intake with a veggie tray.
- Stay active. Grab some friends for a game of cornhole, ladder golf, or anything else to keep you moving.
- Be mindful of alcohol. If you partake, a helpful rule of thumb is to have a glass of water in between each drink.
- BYOD! (Bring Your Own Dish.) Swap the Pigs in a Blanket for this Pesto with Sweet Potato Crostini, or add extra nutrients to the traditional potato salad with a Roasted Vegetable & Potato Salad.
