Treat a loved one to a special morning treat this fall with fresh-baked delightful chocolate doughnuts.
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Spray two 6-count donut pans with nonstick baking spray.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips (if using), and baking soda.
- In a small bowl, beat together the vanilla, egg, sour cream, milk, and oil.
- Stir the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a large zip-close bag with a corner snipped off, and pipe into the donut pans.
- Bake until the cake just springs back when gently touched, about 8 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove the donuts from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan before glazing.
- To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla until smooth.
- Dunk the donuts in the glaze to fully coat and place on a wire rack to set, about 5 minutes.
