  • 1 tsp. plus 1 cup butter, divided
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Soft, buttery caramels oozing with rich flavor

  1. Line 8" square pan with foil; grease with 1 tsp. butter.
  2. In large saucepan combine sugar, corn syrup and remaining butter. Bring to boil over medium heat stirring constantly. Boil slowly for 4 minutes without stirring.
  3. Remove from heat, stir in milk and vanilla.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low. Using a candy thermometer cook to 238° F, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour into prepared pan, do not scrape the saucepan.
  6. Once cool, using the foil, lift candy from the pan.
  7. Discard foil and cut candy into squares. Wrap squares in wax paper, twisting ends.
