Every great pizza begins with great crust - spice up your next pizza night with homemade dough! We’re going Back to Basics with Whitney as she shows us how to make pizza dough.
Follow the full dough recipe below:
Ingredients:
- 5 cups bread flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 ¾ cups warm water (120°-130°)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Cornmeal for dusting
Directions:
- In a very large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir in water and oil until combined and moistened throughout.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead dough until smooth and elastic (3-4 minutes), then place in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to make sure oil coats the surface of the dough. Cover and let rise at room temperature until double in size, about 2 hours.
- Remove the dough and divide into four portions, then gently shape each portion into a ball. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 500°. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll or stretch each dough portion into a roughly 10-inch circle. Transfer each dough circle to a baking sheet that has been sprinkled generously with cornmeal. Add toppings.
- Carefully slide one pizza at a time onto the heated pizza stone if you are using one. If not, place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for about 7 minutes on a stone or about 10 minutes on a baking sheet, or until the crust is golden.
