- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then sour cream and vanilla.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt: gradually beat into creamed mixture.
- Divide dough into three portions. Shape each into a disk: wrap in plastic. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to 1/4” thickness. Cut with floured cookie cutters to prevent sticking. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
- Bake in preheated oven at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until light brown. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
- Helpful Hint: You can freeze unbaked cookie cutouts on baking sheets until firm. Place in freezer bags. Freeze up to 3 months. No need to thaw. You can bake cookies as directed, adding an extra minute or two to baking time.
- Mix all ingredients (confectioners sugar, corn syrup, water and optional flavoring) together on lowest mixer setting.
- Mix well for at least one minute.
- Color with gel food coloring as desired.
- Decorate cookies as desired with icing and fun sprinkles.
