Back to Basics: How to Make French Toast

This week on Back To Basics, Whitney shows us How to Make French Toast. There’s nothing better for breakfast!

This simple recipe will have everyone in your family smiling when they wake up. Top your French Toast with powdered sugar, your favorite berries, butter or syrup. 

Give it a try:

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 thick slices brioche, challah, country Italian bread, or Texas toast
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Pancake or maple syrup, optional

        Directions:

        1. In a shallow bowl whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, turning to coat and allowing to soak for a few seconds.
        2. In a skillet or on a griddle melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat. Add half of the bread slices; cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden. Remove from skillet. Repeat with remaining butter and bread slices. Serve warm. If desired, serve with syrup.
