USE GREEN INGREDIENTS
Instead of dying foods green, make green foods from the start!- Use spinach or basil pasta in place of traditional white pasta.
- Use avocado for a creamy element in place of mayo, sour cream, or even ice cream.
- Incorporate pesto into pastas, deviled eggs, and other savory dishes.
- Generously garnish your meals with fresh herbs like parsley, basil, and sage.
- Ground or crushed pistachios can transform sweets when mixed in or added as a topping.
ADD HOMEMADE, NATURAL FOOD COLORING
- Place 1 cup fresh spinach in small saucepot; add water to cover. Heat to boil over high heat; reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 5 minutes.
- Drain spinach and process with 3 tablespoons water in food processor until smooth (add 1 tablespoon water at a time if mixture clumps together); strain through fine-mesh strainer.
- Discard solids; refrigerate food coloring in airtight container up to 3 days.
MIX IN PREMADE FOOD COLORING
Traditional food coloring is easy to mix into many dishes, without impacting the flavor. You’ll typically find both liquid and gel food coloring at your local Price Chopper.- Liquid food coloring is typically easier to mix in, but produces less vibrant colors. Liquid food coloring can also affect recipes that are highly sensitive to liquid ratios.
- Gel food coloring is much more concentrated than their liquid counter parts. They produce a much more vibrant color and are less likely to affect consistency of sensitive recipes. These colorings can be more difficult to evenly incorporate into thicker mixtures.
